Digital collage

I just love old documents, clippings, used stamps, hand tinted illustrations, quick notes, rich with history and worn by time.

I’m amazed at how some of these things last.I just acquired some antique French ephemera, and it’s just wonderful!! I’ve scanned it all in to play with and this is my first collage. I think this looks lovely as it is, but am going to continue into the encaustic world with it. I’ve purchased some 3M positionable mounting adhesive to adhere this to an encaustic cradle. Next I will cover with wax and see where we go from there. I might add some texture, color, trinkets, found objects.

The beauty of digital collage is being able to reuse the same pieces over and over!! These pieces are so beautiful, I would hate to ruin one attempting art. Also I can size and scale images giving them a new life! Even alter the colors! The tricky part is know when to stop, like any art project…you can go on forever…and with digital art you can find yourself in a vicious circle of doing and undoing. At some point you have to stop. So at my point, I stopped, printed it out and am going to take it to a different medium! Stay tuned to see how it turns out.
